June in Review in my Sourdough Microbakery: Revenue Records and Strategic Takeaways | Episode 90

This summer, I scaled back my baking rhythm—but not my results.

In June, I only baked three times (one porch pickup and two markets), yet brought in $4,395 in revenue. One of those markets broke my sales record with over $2,000 in a single day. But it didn’t come without lessons—some joyful, some frustrating.

Here’s what worked, what didn’t, and what I’m adjusting going forward:

Top Wins from June:

  • Mini Inclusion Loaves: I downsized from 900g to 450g and customers loved it. I now offer them at $7 each or 2 for $12, and they’re flying off the table.

  • Equipment Upgrade: I scored a 20-quart Hobart mixer on Facebook Marketplace for half what I’d budgeted. Huge win for muffin and cookie dough prep.

  • Facebook Group Marketing: A simple, friendly post in a local moms’ group led to new Instagram followers and fresh faces at the market.

  • Inner Circle Relaunch: Our third round kicked off with amazing bakers and one-on-one coaching calls. The next round opens in September!

Pain Points and Lessons:

  • Packaging Overload: Without help from my kids (who were away), I did all the packaging myself—labeling English muffins late into the night. It was exhausting and not sustainable.

  • No Assistant = Burnout Risk: I’ve been too busy to hire someone new, which is a red flag. I'm committing to rehiring this month, even for just a few hours a week.

Looking Ahead:

  • July will mirror June—two markets, no porch pickups, and lots of intentional family time.

  • I’m actively pursuing new bakery spaces after my original option began to fall through. While disappointing at first, this might lead to something even better.

  • I'm planning to launch a community crowdfunding campaign (instead of relying on a single investor), and I’m genuinely excited about bringing our local supporters into the story.

My big takeaway? Listen to your customers. Revisit your processes. And don’t let being “too busy” stop you from getting help.

If you’re navigating a similar season—whether it’s shifting your offerings or dreaming of your own storefront—I’d love to hear what’s working for you too. Drop me a message or tag me on Instagram!
